4701Seessel's by Albertsons1761 Union AvenueMemphis (Midtown)TN38104ShelbyThis was the third relocation of the original Seessel's store, with Seessel's first moving to Union Avenue in 1926, and to this address in 1941; the final Seessel's store at this site opened in 1965. Formerly family-owned, Seessel's later was acquired by other retailers, including Albertsons in 1998, the last owner to keep the Seessel's name intact. Part of the original 10 Seessel's stores purchased by Albertsons in 1998. One of the 12 Seessel's stores sold to Schnucks in March 2002, and one of the nine former Schnucks stores purchased by Kroger in September 2011. Kroger closed this store in January 2016, demolished it, and subsequently built a larger, more modern replacement store on neighboring property which opened in November 2016, finally making good on promises both Albertsons and Schnucks had made in the past regarding this location. Read more about the history of Seessel's here: https://web-beta.archive.org/web/19970412091029/http://www.seessels.com:80/shistory.htm Read more about the aftermath of Seessel's here: https://midsouthretail.blogspot.com/2016/07/the-aftermath-of-seessels.html
